    A couple of weeks ago, a reader dropped me a really interesting email.  He was looking for a way to get more low end out of a recording -- and of course, the first thing that came to mind was subharmonic synthesis -- such as the DBX Boom Box.  But what is subharmonic synthesis? It's a process used by both hardware and software that makes it possible to extract extra low end from recording material;  Apple Logic and Avid's Pro Tools can both do it via plug-ins (and Logic's built-in version sounds excellent).  Hardware solutions are plentiful, including offerings by BBE and DBX.  In this article, you'll learn the basics of using this excellent tool -- and how to avoid over-using it.
