So you’ve just got a shiny new iPad and you want to make some music. To be honest you now have quite a few choices when it comes to music creation apps and the list continues to grow. To keep things simple let’s take a look at the most obvious choice… Apple’s very own GarageBand. In this tutorial I’ll give you a step by step account of how I built my first loop in GarageBand and hopefully this will give you a nice overview of what the app is capable of. The audio and the actual Garageband project file is available to download, so you can take a closer look in your own time. Step 1: A ‘Smart’ Beat GarageBand on the iPad is capable of producing eight simultaneous tracks of audio (or instruments). These eight tracks can be made up of various sound sources, you can record your own audio via the microphone or audio input, you can use built in Apple loops or your own samples and you can also use any of GarageBand’s excellent built in instruments. I’ve tried to mix things up... Relative News

// Today I would like to show you a mini pluck sequence. I use this sound quite a lot in my productions, and invented the term “mini pluck”. It is used in several trance songs – especially in uplifting trance – but you can use other genres as well In this tutorial I’ll show you how to create a “mini pluck downer” type patch in Sylenth. This is basically a pluck arpeggio with a filter being modulated in a random rhythm. I use Ableton Live to create it. It is suitable for giving backing support to other parts of the song. Other words it’s a backing track just give some feel your tracks. Step 1: Create a Track Let’s insert a MIDI channel in Ableton and insert the MIDI clip. The length of the clip is three bars. Change the grid to 16th notes and draw some notes on C#4, E, G#, A and don’t leave any silence between them. So as you see the notes is rising on the scale. Duplicate this sequence until you reach bar 2.3. So the sequence looks like the following. This will act... Relative News

In Part 1 of this tutorial which can be found here, we examined a couple of uses of side chain compression and demonstrated how this method can assist and enhance your mixing experience. Specifically, we looked at how we can sidechain a single signal and also used an effect rack on a return channel and a neat Utility plugin trick to apply compression to multiple signals. In Part 2, we are going to examine two ways of ducking only a selected frequency range and also how to compress a “busy” signal. The Ableton Live version being used is 8.0.9. Step 4: Ducking a Frequency Range Till now, our bass synth’s volume lowers down when the kick drum is heard. Drop a Spectrum device on the master channel and observe the lower frequency range. Solo the Bass channel, then the Drums channel. On the drum channel just go on and solo only the kick drum for the time being. Then CTRL + click both solo button to listen to both channels (Drums and Bass) playing together while looking at the... Relative News

Our sister site AudioJungle is a royalty-free stock audio site that helps musicians earn money. In this interview series you’ll learn about those musicians, their gear, and their AudioJungle experiences. Today we feature AudioJungle author Bobby Cole (Catch22Music). Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from, what do you do for a living? My name is Bobby Cole, and I am from the small fishing of Mumbles which is in the city of Swansea, South Wales. (Wales is the country that is just on the side of England UK.) It’s a beautiful place, right next to the seaside and surrounded by countryside. My studio is situated just a stones throw from the beach and that’s where I make a living. Growing up in a small village like the Mumbles, I had to find something to do….! Music did not run in the family, but most instruments that I have learnt have all come quite naturally to me. I started drumming at 7 years old, guitar at 9, piano at 14, and recently have started to learn things... Relative News

This is a message I received through Facebook, I'm not entirely sure why I am posting it on my blog, but I feel a need to for some reason. The names have been removed to protect the innocent, or the guilty, depends how you look at that I suppose. I'm not judging here, I'm just posting it, as I don't want to keep it inside me. I've not contacted XXXX either. And for the record I do not make a point of posting Facebook messages, just in case you were worried. -------------------- (no subject) Hello, I’m sending you this letter because you are one of the 300 Facebook friends of XXXX. I’m trying to contact XXXX for 18 months now, I even went to England to try to locate her, in vain. As a last resort, I’m writing to you, as to her other friends. Maybe it’s best to tell you who I am, before you think I’m a nut. Well, XXXX migrated to Israel in 1997. Before that she was in Brussels, and I was her boyfriend. When XXXX decided to leave Belgium to Jerusalem, I tried to convince... Relative News

This tutorial is for producers who don’t have drums kits or drum machines. Using kicks from sample libraries is good choice for production, but many producers including me think that using other people’s samples doesn’t sound unique enough. If you want to make unique kicks you have to do it on your own. You don’t have to buy an expensive drum machine or real drum kits. You do have to buy or download some excellent drum libraries, and use them to create some fantastic and awesome kicks which will be the foundation of your song. Why is this so important? Listen some dance record from the top artist like Armin Van Buuren, Garreth Emery, Ferry Corsten and you will realize that the kick is the most important element of their song. How we shape the sound of a kick is one of the most creative decisions we have to make—we control aspects like how solid, how punchy, how thick and how snappy. If your kicks lack energy, or are too soft, they won’t bring satisfaction on the dance... Relative News

I remember my first electric guitar. I liked its design—it had great playability and was comfortable. It was a Stratocaster copy with three single coil pickups. One thing I didn’t like was the sound that came from the bridge pickup. It was too thin, and at that time I needed a pretty thick sound. So it sounded fat when played through Tube Screamer and Marshall amps. A few months later I replaced it with a single coil stack Humbucker and was happy with the results. The good thing is that a good pickup can make a cheaper guitar sound good and a good guitar sound excellent. Less hum, more tone, singing harmonics, at a fraction of the cost of replacing the instrument. What Is a Pickup? Electric guitar pickups are made with one or more magnets, and wire. The pickup consists of a magnet surrounded by a coil of copper wire with a certain number of turns that will result a magnetic field. When the strings vibrate, this affects the pickup’s magnetic field, and turns it into a... Relative News
