via this auction"Two things to know about this: 1. it's 100% functional and 2. it's been painted matte black and been given new, soft-touch knobs. I modified this because I didn't really care for the yellow, and it looks quite nice sitting on a desktop or synth. Now, since the labeling has been painted over, I'll also provide a diagram of how to hook everything up. It's a pretty basic MIDI Relative News

via this auction"This has to be absolutely one-of-a-kind: A 1980's vintage Synare S3X Drum Synthesizer, modified to accept input from an external audio source. The trouble is, it doesn't work...If you're not familiar with the S3X, it's pretty cool, when it works. It's an upgrade of the orginal, somewhat legendary Synare 3 (PS 3), a dual-oscillator analog synthesizer that's triggered by drum hits. Relative News

These were made under license by many companies in many countries. Probably most famous for that 'Telstar' lead sound, also used on the Beatles 'Baby you're a rich man' (that weird Indian sounding oboe sound) and in modified form on 'Runaway'. Understanding phase can help you diagnose problems when miking or mixing. This post is a clear explanation and helpful overview of the topic from Mark Garrison’s book Encyclopedia of Home Recording. “The Encyclopedia of Home Recording puts those answers at your fingertips quickly and easily by explaining the tools, techniques, and terminology of the home studio in an easy-to-understand manner.” This post is an extract from that book. If you enjoyed the post, you might like to consider purchasing the book. The word phase is used to refer to points along the progression of the cycle of a sound wave (see Fig. 73). Points along this progression are designated in degrees, just as if the sound wave was a circle. The point where the sound wave is furthest into positive amplitude is 90 ̊, where it reaches the center line again is 180 ̊, the point furthest into negative amplitude is 270 ̊, and so on. When two identical signals are not perfectly aligned, they are said to be “out-... Relative News

Ableton Live is a fully featured Digital Audio Workstation that allows users to make music in creative and experimental ways. However, Ableton began life as a DJ application. While features have been added over time to increase it’s functionality as a DAW, it’s DJ functions have increased as well. Here are some tips to save time by creating a DJ template with Ableton. Step 1 First, open Ableton and go to the session view. Create at least two audio tracks. These two audio tracks will function as your virtual decks. More ambitious DJs can add more audio tracks, but it’s best to start with two. Step 2 – Assign Your Cross-fader Much like in analog DJ set-ups, the Ableton cross-fader will be your best friend. Make sure your cross-fader is enabled by pressing the ”X” button just to the right of the master mixer channel. Once the cross-fader is active, you will see the letters “A” and “B” beneath each of your audio and send channels. Assign the first audio channel the letter... Relative News

I remember my first electric guitar. I liked its design—it had great playability and was comfortable. It was a Stratocaster copy with three single coil pickups. One thing I didn’t like was the sound that came from the bridge pickup. It was too thin, and at that time I needed a pretty thick sound. So it sounded fat when played through Tube Screamer and Marshall amps. A few months later I replaced it with a single coil stack Humbucker and was happy with the results. The good thing is that a good pickup can make a cheaper guitar sound good and a good guitar sound excellent. Less hum, more tone, singing harmonics, at a fraction of the cost of replacing the instrument. What Is a Pickup? Electric guitar pickups are made with one or more magnets, and wire. The pickup consists of a magnet surrounded by a coil of copper wire with a certain number of turns that will result a magnetic field. When the strings vibrate, this affects the pickup’s magnetic field, and turns it into a... Relative News
